Privacy Policy
PrayerShield is built so that your prayer life stays private. Your prayers, journal entries, and the apps you choose to shield stay on your device. This policy explains exactly what stays local, the limited usage data we collect, and the choices you have.
What stays on your device
- Journal entries and anything you write in the app
- Your prayer plan, streaks, and prayer history
- The apps you choose to shield
- All app settings and preferences
This data is stored locally in secure storage and is never uploaded to our servers. Uninstalling the app removes it.
Screen Time and Accessibility
On iOS, PrayerShield uses Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) framework to pause the apps you select. Your selections are opaque tokens processed entirely on your device; we cannot see which apps you choose, and this information never leaves your device.
On Android, PrayerShield uses the Accessibility Service for one purpose only: detecting when a shielded app is opened so the prayer screen can appear. This detection happens entirely on your device. No information about your app usage is collected, stored remotely, or shared.
Usage analytics
We collect limited, pseudonymous usage analytics through Mixpanel to understand how the app is used and improve it: which screens are visited and which features are used, associated with a randomly generated identifier. Analytics never include your journal contents, your prayers, or the identity of the apps you shield.
Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple's App Store or Google Play, and managed through RevenueCat, our subscription infrastructure provider. RevenueCat receives your purchase receipt and a pseudonymous app identifier to validate your subscription. We never see or store your payment details.
Notifications
Prayer reminders are scheduled locally on your device. We do not send remote push notifications.
Permissions we request
- Screen Time (iOS): to pause the apps you choose during prayer
- Accessibility and display over other apps (Android): to detect shielded apps opening and show the prayer screen
- Notifications: for prayer reminders you schedule
PrayerShield does not access your camera, contacts, or location.
Deleting your data
See our data deletion page for exact steps. In short: uninstalling the app removes all on-device data, and you can email us to erase the pseudonymous analytics and subscription records associated with your install.
Children
PrayerShield is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be highlighted in the app.
